CARL LEWIS
Class of 1951
Carl Lewis was Vice President of the Senior Class; Sports Editor of the school newspaper; a member of the annual staff; and Captain of the Yakima Valley Championship Football Team of 1950. He was a letterman in baseball and basketball also.
Carl served our country in the US Airforce during the Korean war and was awarded two battle stars along with other honors and awards.
During the 1970's, Carl was elected to the Washington State Bowling Board of Directors and bowled in two national tournaments with a team made up of State Directors from other states. He has been in the automobile business as a Comptroller of several large automobile dealerships for over 40 years. In 1992, 1993, and 1994, Carl was appointed to the General Motors prestiges National Automobile Dealers Business Advisory Board. There were only 42 people nationwide on this board which met in Palm Springs, Miami and Phoenix for a week each year. During this time Carl was awarded three trips by the Chevrolet Motor Division to London, Rome and Australia. He also, received trips from Chevrolet to Aruba, Toronto, and Las Vegas. Carl Lewis grew up on a farm in Grandview. Although he has no family left here, his roots will always be in Grandview.
