Robert Clayton
Class of 1957
In 1971, Robert Clayton opened the first water bed store in the Pacific Northwest. Eventually he had 15 stores and did over $2,000,000 a year in volume.
From 1985 through 1991, Robert was the director of Washington Oak, a non profit, all volunteer, apprenticeship program for street kids. They took problem children off the streets and taught them a trade...how to repair and refurbish office furniture. There was no charge for this schooling and they were paid minimum wage during their apprenticeship. The entire staff, including Robert Clayton, was strictly volunteer with no compensation of any kind. Their philosophy was; if you give people money or food stamps , they will soon use them up and be back for another handout. However, if you teach them a trade , they can always get a job and support themselves.
After 6 yrs, Robert ran out of personal funds and had to find a paying job, so he left Washington Oak. Today, Robert sells instant garages and all weather shelters in Tacoma, WA. at Greene Frogge Enterprises. Just type Greene Froggy Instant Garages into any search engine and Robert Clayton's site will pop up.
If you knew Robert way back then, or even if you didn't, email him at froggy@nwrain.com.
